Adult Mental Health First Aid

Audience: Individuals who interact mostly with adults

Adult Mental Health First Aid (AMHFA):
This essential public education program equips you to identify, understand, and respond to help adults experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis at the workplace or home. This course teaches you how to recognize critical signs, provide initial assistance, and connect individuals with appropriate care. You'll explore topics like anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, and self-care, gaining practical strategies for interacting with those in crisis. Upon completion, you'll receive a 3-year certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.

 

Age requirement: Participants in this class must be 18 years of age or older.

Class size limit: 25 participants.

Course Details: This interactive training course comprises 2 hours of self-paced content (to be completed online independently before the live session) and one 6.5-hour instructor-led session over Zoom.  Due to the interactive nature of this course, there was a maximum of 30 participants per offering.

Part 1 (Self-Paced): In this virtual self-study module, you will navigate the Mental Health First Aid e-learning platform. You'll learn about the purpose of MHFA, the role of the First Aider, substance use disorders, and recovery strategies, along with an introduction to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges affecting adults. This section typically takes about two hours to complete and must be finished before attending the live session.

Part 2 (Instructor-Led): In the live session, lasting 5.5 to 6 hours, you'll engage in small group activities and develop skills to apply the 5-step action plan in various scenarios.
 

Technical Requirements:

  • You need a laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam. Make sure your webcam is turned on during all parts of the course.

  • When you register, use a unique email address. This will help us create your learning account and send you the course materials, tests, and certification.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. 

Audience: Individuals who interact mostly with youths under 18 

Languages: English & Spanish

​Duration: 2 hours self-paced pre-work plus 6 hours live class

Youth Mental Health First Aid

CPR/First Aid courses equip students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA workplace or other regulatory requirements. Upon successful completion a valid 2 year digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is issued.

Audience: 15 years old or older

Duration: Required pre-work plus 2.5 hrs skills session

Delivery Methods: Blended or In-Person
